Top of Europe - Jungfraujoch, New Tour Gallery Sphinx Hall – Ice Palace

A new tunnel with a length of 240 m was constructed from the Sphinx Hall to the Ice Palace to optimise the flow of visitors. A storage cavern with a length of 43 m and a debris tunnel with a length of 60 m provide the operator with additional storage space. Two horizontal moving walkways with lengths of 70 m and 43 m and a 9.10 m bridge over a karst cave were constructed in the tour gallery. The tunnels were excavated using the drill and blast method. The daily stream of visitors and an altitude of 3,460 metres above sea level posed logistical challenges.
