On 15 December, a new 750-metre-long floodplain watercourse was put into operation at the Rupperswil-Auenstein power station. It is the centrepiece of various environmental measures being implemented as part of the new licensing process.
After the water retention system was opened, the water quickly flowed along the low-water channel, gurgling as it filled the preformed scours around the numerous wooden structures and wetting the shallow water zones. Soon afterwards, the turbidity subsided and the diverse flow pattern and numerous newly created fish shelters became visible. From now on, nature will take over and we are excited to see how the watercourse will develop.
The work was planned by IUB Engineering AG on behalf of SBB and carried out by the construction company Eberhard Bau AG.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone involved in the project for the pleasant, constructive and successful cooperation!
